BURIAL |
Sacramento, Sacramento County, California, USA |
Born in Raton, New Mexico, on June 5, 1930; died on February 13, 2004 at age 73. Max spent the last few months surrounded by family and friends as he succumbed to the melanoma that he had courageously battled for two years. An honorable and intelligent man with a sweet spirit, he was a loyal presence in many lives over the course of many years. A resident of Folsom since 1992, Max moved to Sacramento in the early 1940’s after spending the first decade of his life growing up with his two brothers on a ranch in Tucumcari, NM. He graduated from Sacramento High School in June, 1948. Max was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, during which he served as a paratrooper. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Sacramento State College; worked in the grocery business at the 36th Street Market; and was employed for 26 years by the State of California as an auditor with the Controller’s Office and a research specialist with the Department of Health Services in the Rate Development Branch of the Medi-Cal Policy Division. Max retired in December, 1995. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Roseville Golf Club at Diamond Oaks. He also enjoyed the art of flying and, for a time, owned light planes – a Cherokee and, in partnership with his friends Gene and Vern, a Grumman Tiger. Max was preceded in death by his mother, Merle Koch Davis; father, Curtis I. Davis; stepmother, Mary L. Davis; and brothers, John Davis (in 1976) and Curt Davis (in 1996). He is survived by his nephew, John Davis; nieces Darci (Ahmed) Jayousi; Staci (Mike) Barnett; Raili (Stan) Kedzior; and Charlotte Yost; and great-nephews Zachary and Kyle Jayousi; Sean Barnett; and Danny Yost. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, February 18 at Max’s home – 103 Northolt Court in Folsom, CA 95630. It will be an open house during the hours of 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, or the charity of donor’s choice.
