G.O. “Johnny” Dobbs, 76, of Los Lunas passed away Feb. 7, 2007 after a prolonged illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents C.G. “Preacher” and Mildred “Tom” Dobbs, brother-in-law Zane Leslie and brother Joe Ray Dobbs. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jean M. Dobbs; son Jeff and his wife Margie; grandchildren Audrey, Abigail and Christopher Why-man; sister Bessie Fay Leslie; brother Wayland and his wife Patsy Dobbs; many nieces and nephews; aunts Evelyn Ham and Frankie Calley; and many cousins. Johnny considered the Carrizozo area home. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. In 1970 he won the Pony Express Race in Lincoln County. He was an example to everyone who knew him of moral integrity and honesty. He was a cowboy – a cowpuncher to those who know what a true cowboy is. He loved ranch life and often told stories of his experiences to the delight of others. In spite of life handing him many hard knocks, he always had an upbeat attitude and a hand-up to others. He will be missed by all. There will be a memorial gathering at the Bar-W Ranch at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 24, to celebrate Johnny’s life.
