Many people were delinquent paying there property taxes from 1895 and later. The newspaper started posting late property taxes in 1899 showing many people behind for many years previously. The purpose of this delinquent tax map is to see by continuing through the years, if anyone late in 1899 did in fact pay their taxes in 1900 or maybe worse even, nobody did from this point. Also, by making a map showing delinquent property taxes, one could rule out houses being delinquent. In fact, by this method, I was able to pinpoint Hewitt’s lot on Lincoln Avenue of being Lot 8; otherwise, I was making a good guess. However, the Gumm mansion is listed in the 1899 delinquent taxes, so Im thinking he had a lot of money problems with all the lots he owned.
