John Charles “Charlie” Vail
John Charles Vail was born in Macon Co., Missouri to John Vail and Frances Kis(s)ling. He grew up with 10 siblings on their farms in the same vicinity (Lydia and then Calleo Twps.) His father was a tavern keeper for a time, and his birth family appears in the census sometimes with unrelated boarders. He married Mary Palestine “Pallie” Arthur (using her stepfather’s name Pres(s)ley) in White Oaks, Lincoln Co., New Mexico, Dec. 24, 1891. After the gold rush in White Oaks subsided, he returned to Eastland Co., Texas with his wife’s family, and farmed in parts of Stephens and Parker Co. as well as working as working as an engineer. He and Pallie had five children. He died in Parker Co. Aug. 17, 1933.
Charlie is tied to his birth family by his mother’s maiden name on his death certificate. The informant is his daughter Sarah Elizabeth (Vail) Blevins.
